Mena pharma market to top $44bn by ’20

Abu Dhabi / Emirates Business

UBM EMEA, the organiser of the leading global pharmaceutical exhibition CPhI, has announced the Middle East and Africa edition will make its regional debut in the UAE capital at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) from September 3-5.
“The exhibition is designed to increase partnerships and business opportunities on both a local and international level, this in turn will have a significant impact on increasing the value of the Mena pharma market to over $44 billion by 2020 with this exhibition serving as a platform to further increase the value of the market in this region,” said Cara Turner, Brand Director.
CPhI Middle East & Africa is the region’s leading platform that brings together pharma ingredients, product manufacturers, suppliers and buyers covering every step of the pharma supply chain from drug research and discovery to finished dosage. Supported by Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the event is set to attract attendees from the Middle East and Africa (MEA), of which the Mena region accounts for 4% of the global pharma market, and the rest of the world.
Over 200 local, regional and international exhibitors from more than 30 countries are expected to attend the three-day showcase. In addition to the global network of exhibitors, the event is expected to attract over 5,000 participants, more than 50 per cent of which are expected to come from the MEA region.
Key growth drivers are attributed to a growing population, and greater investment in healthcare by governments. Some of the strongest governments’ investment in infrastructure include the implementation of health insurance and privatisation systems; development of medical tourism infrastructures; development of domestic manufacturing; and access to innovative drugs.
