The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) organised a media event in London for British travel and lifestyle journalists, to promote the emirate, boost media coverage in the UK market and to increase interest in press trips to the UAE capital.
A presentation about Abu Dhabi’s offerings and latest news was given to the 11 journalists over breakfast, after which the journalists had the opportunity to network with members of DCT Abu Dhabi’s UK office to discuss potential feature ideas and tailored press trips.
DCT Abu Dhabi partnered with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts to host the event at their London property – Shangri-La Hotel, at The Shard – with representatives from Etihad Airways’ UK office also in attendance.
Media attendees included, Business Traveller, City A.M., Family Traveller, Glass, House & Garden, Lonely Planet online, National Geographic Traveller, Sainsbury’s Magazine, The Week, Travel Weekly and TTG.
The UK is the leading European source market and the third largest overseas market for Abu Dhabi, with the emirate having seen a rise of 13% in UK visitors during 2017, with guest numbers exceeding 270,000 for the year. Figures for 2018 are already looking healthy, with the first quarter registering a 24% increase on the previous year.
